What is an anagram solver?
An anagram is a word made by rearranging the exact letters of another word — listen and silent, or cat and act. An anagram solver takes a set of letters and finds matching words hidden inside them: the full-length anagrams that use all your letters, plus shorter words you can spell along the way. It is the tool of choice for anagram puzzles, cryptic-crossword anagram clues, the Daily Anagram, and any game where you need to see what a scramble can become.
How to use it
Type a letter set such as LISTEN. Exact six-letter rearrangements such as SILENT appear first. Words that use only some of the letters appear separately under Hidden words, so the main answer is never buried in a generic result list.
Anagrams vs. sub-words
A perfect anagram uses every supplied letter exactly once. Shorter words can still be useful in a puzzle, but they are not exact anagrams. The solver therefore gives full-length matches their own primary section and labels partial matches as hidden words.
Tips for anagram puzzles
- Spot common endings. Rearranged letters often hide suffixes like -ing, -ed, -er or -tion — use the Ends with filter to test them.
- Anchor on rare letters. If your scramble has a Q, X or Z, build around it; there are far fewer possibilities, so the answer reveals itself faster.
- Use blanks for cryptic clues. When a crossword's anagram is missing a letter, add a
?to let the solver fill the gap.
