What is Letter Box?
Letter Box is a strategic word-chain puzzle built from twelve letters arranged on four sides. Form valid words while alternating sides, then connect each accepted word to the next. The objective is to cover every letter at least once, ideally in as few words as the puzzle’s par target.
How to play
Select a letter to begin, then choose each following letter from a different side. Words need at least three letters. After the first accepted word, the next must start with its final letter. Submit to add the word to the chain; Undo Last Word lets you reconsider the latest step. The puzzle ends when the combined chain has covered all twelve letters.
The Daily Challenge uses a deterministic validated puzzle for the UTC date. Unlimited Play offers further puzzles, with New Puzzle available inside that mode. Active chains, elapsed time and hints persist locally through refresh. Hints progress from a starting suggestion toward a possible next word and are counted in the result.
Planning a shorter chain
Prioritise words that cover several unused letters, but check their final letter before committing. A long word can be strategically weak if it leaves no useful next start. Look for a bridge word whose ending opens a second word containing the remaining rare letters. Because consecutive letters cannot come from the same side, verify the path visually rather than relying only on spelling.
Completing below par, at par or above par all finishes the puzzle. The result distinguishes these outcomes and keeps Daily and Unlimited records separate.
Saved state, hints and completion records
The active chain is validated and stored locally with elapsed time and hint count. Reloading therefore restores the same Daily or Unlimited puzzle instead of generating a more convenient board. Up to three hints progressively reveal useful direction from a curated solution path; using one is visible in the final result rather than hidden.
Every side letter is a labelled button, selected letters are shown in the centre, and unavailable actions are disabled. Completion reports words used, par, all twelve covered letters, hints, time and Daily streak. Sharing identifies the puzzle and chain performance without claiming a global position. New Puzzle appears within Unlimited Play, while the date-based Daily identity and its completed state remain unchanged.
