What is Word Chain?
Word Chain is a timed vocabulary survival game. The first word is supplied, and every answer after it must begin with the final letter of the previous accepted word. If the chain shows APPLE, for example, the next entry must start with E. Each new link changes the required letter, creating a continuous route through familiar vocabulary.
How to play
You begin with thirty seconds. Enter a valid word of at least three letters that starts with the highlighted letter, then submit it before time runs out. The broad gameplay dictionary checks the entry. A word already used in the current chain cannot be repeated, and an invalid word or broken link stays out of the history without changing the score.
Every accepted word scores one point for each letter. It also adds a time bonus equal to three seconds plus the word length, capped at twelve seconds. A seven-letter answer therefore scores seven points and adds ten seconds. The clock then continues from the extended time, so a reliable answer can be more valuable than waiting too long for an impressive one.
Daily Challenge and Survival
The Daily Challenge uses a deterministic starting word for each UTC date. Accepted links are stored locally, allowing the active chain to survive a reload after play has begun. Completing at least one active Daily run can advance the participation streak once for that date. New Survival starts a separate practice run with another opening word and does not alter the Daily streak.
When time expires, the result reports links made, total letters scored and the longest word. A good result balances speed with variety: a long chain shows consistent retrieval, while a higher letter total rewards longer answers. Share Result publishes only those measures and a symbolic chain, never the words you entered or the Daily answer path.
Keeping the chain alive
Look one step ahead before submitting. Words ending in common letters such as E, R, S or T usually leave more options than words ending in rare letters. Keep a short dependable word ready when the timer is low, then use the added seconds to search for a longer answer. Because repeats are blocked, alternate between different word families rather than relying on the same few links.
The prompt, timer and history update after every accepted word. Status text explains invalid length, dictionary rejection, wrong starting letter or duplication. Physical and mobile keyboards use the same form, and completion information remains understandable with sound off or reduced motion enabled.
