What is Word Drop?
Word Drop is an arcade survival game played on an accumulating board of letter tiles. New letters arrive as the run advances. Build valid words from available tiles to remove them, control the board and delay the point when no more space remains. The pressure rises over time, but word choice determines how effectively you recover room.
How to play
Select at least three tiles in the exact order needed for a word, then submit. Every selected tile is used once, and an accepted word removes those tiles from the board. A rejected word leaves the board unchanged. Later stages introduce letters more quickly, so keeping spare capacity is as important as chasing a single impressive answer.
Longer words, later stages and controlled combos increase score. Your result records stage reached, words formed, longest word, best combo and survival time. An active run intentionally does not persist: refreshing the page ends it and returns to a fresh start.
Board-control strategy
Do not wait only for long words while the board fills. Short reliable clears can preserve enough room to reach another stage. Look for flexible suffixes and common vowel-consonant patterns among newly arrived tiles. When several words are available, prefer the one that removes awkward letters or creates a balanced remainder.
Combos reward consistent accepted submissions, but a speculative word can break momentum. Use the broad dictionary deliberately and watch the selection order before submitting on touch screens. Reaching a later stage with clear space is usually stronger than earning a brief score burst while leaving the board close to full.
Timing, feedback and completed records
The arrival loop follows elapsed time rather than assuming every animation frame occurs on schedule. Hiding and returning to the tab therefore does not create a scoring advantage. Selected tiles use a clear active state, and acceptance or rejection feedback stays outside the board and Submit control. Music can remain completely off without changing arrival timing, tile generation or score.
Only a finished run is recorded in the local leaderboard. The active board is intentionally transient, and the start screen states that refresh ends it rather than implying recovery is available. At game over, the result distinguishes stage, words, longest word, combo and survival time before presenting replay and share actions. Completed-run records and personal bests remain local to this browser.
Frequently asked questions
How long must an answer be?
